Are not all that bad - if you are prepared,  A handsome hurricane lamp will give hours of warm light on a single filling of oil.  Lamps are fitted to hand turned bases of various designs and woods.  The chimney stands approximately 12 inches high, not including the wooden base.  The lamp at right is turned from Maple with some natural "defects" - insect tunnels etc, that add unique character to the piece (insects not included, of course!).
