Every nice pen starts out as a collection of small parts and raw materials which may be wood, antler, bone, horn or maybe manmade. In this example I am going to make a Comfort Pen from deer antler. Right up front I'd like to give my friend, Doug Johns all the credit for these great photos. We spent 6 hours doing setups and still shots to show you what goes into making a pen. This part of the site would not be possible without Doug's help.
Aside from the raw materials, pens generally come as a kit of loose parts which must be integrated into the raw material and later assembled into the finished product. At right is a Comfort Pen kit and a nice piece of antler that will be used for this project.
