Hand Crafted Pens for All Occasions
I've laid out the cut lines on the antler. I will need two pieces about 2 inches long and as straight as I can find them. Antler pens are hard to make because of the curvature and trying to drill straight through, which you will see in the next step. Although it looks brittle, it isn't. Antler does need to dry after it is harvested so that it is solid all the way through.
I use a small scroll saw that I picked up a yard sale. It is great for making short, quick cuts through various materials, including antler. Replacement blades are cheep and easy to install and last a good long time before they need to be changed. The saw is also fairly safe, though it will cut fingers too if they get in the way!
